I grew up in New Orleans and my love for art, music and film started there. There was a constant soundtrack to my life by nature of my hometown and I was aware at an early age the affect sound had me and others. But growing up in such a musically talented town with few opportunities, I navigate with a notion that there wasn’t a place for me in music and could at best stay adjacent by way of some other path. I graduated from The Willow School (fka Lusher Charter School) with a Certificate of Artistry in Media Arts where I learned film production, story telling through different digital mediums. In all this, I found every opportunity to weave in some exploration of music development in my work.
I furthered that foundational education to go on and study Advertising/PR at the University of Central Florida with an added focus on Psychology and Digital Media. I took on almost a dozen campus jobs and internships in roles from Marketing to Copywriting. It wasn’t until I discovered Production and Project Management in the field that I felt I found a role that really resonated with me and what I was capable of. In 2014 I became a fellow of MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Internship Program), landing me an opportunity to intern in Production with Saatchi&Saatchi in NYC.
I made my way into music after starting my career in advertising film production in LA, developing commercials with some of the industry’s leading producers and creatives, working on brands like Nissan, Airbnb, Google and the LA Olympics bid. Taking advantage of all the eagerly creative and openly collaborative environment LA provided, I moonlit playing keys for various bands and writing music with friends at every opportunity. Eventually I gave up the agency side to pursue jobs in music full-time and found my place in placing music for many of those same brands I’d worked on from agencies I worked with. I’ve since been lucky to work with industry vets and connect new and diverse talent in the emerging generations to opportunities in the creative industry.
I’ve always, and often still, seek to create on my own. But in crafting with my peers, studying the greats and lifting up rising talent throughout the path of my career journey, I became apparent to me that my best strength was identifying great talent, seeing a clear pathway for their potential, being a guide and connector for opportunities.
